From Parents to Parents

I’m just about half way through my trip here in the Philippines, and so far it’s been everything I expected and more, but I will be updating with a couple posts that are more specific to the trip as it continues to unfold. This post is in regards to my step-father and his sister. We went to visit their parents’ grave, in which they haven’t seen since the 1980’s. It was a very emotional moment for them, and I haven’t seen my step-father mourn like he did in a very long time. I started to think about my initial reaction to when my parents would one day pass away, although I try not to think about it. Instead I wonder about the best thing I can do in return for their love and support.

A word of advice was given to me by my step-father at a young age:

“There will always be time for everything.”

I’ve taken that advice to heart and it is something that I will continue to live by.
